Personal app page vs the App Store: why you need both
2 min read
The App Store is a discovery channel you do not own. A personal AllApps page is the catalog you do own, for every platform you ship.
The App Store is still the default way people install iPhone software. It is also a listing you do not control: search rank moves, screenshots have rules, and anything that is not iOS simply does not belong there.
A personal app page fills that gap. AllApps gives you allapps.page/@yourname as a catalog for every product, including the ones Apple will never list.
What the store is good at
Use official stores when you want:
- paid iOS or Android distribution
- default install trust on a phone
- a URL you can paste into press kits as "get it on iOS"
Do not expect the store page to explain your whole company. It explains one binary.
What a personal page is good at
Your AllApps page can hold the iOS app, the web companion, the Android build, and the paid desktop tool. It can show prices across billing periods, a YouTube demo, reviews from X, and a contact form for partnerships.
That is closer to a small studio homepage than to a store listing, without the work of designing a studio homepage.
How the two links work together
On the App Store, the marketing URL and support URL can point at your AllApps page. On AllApps, the iOS card can point back at the store. Visitors who arrive from either side still see the rest of your work.
The same pattern works for Play Store and the web. One personal URL is the hub. Store URLs are spokes.
When you have no store listing at all
Plenty of products never go through Apple or Google: internal tools, web apps, browser extensions, CLI utilities sold on the internet. Those still need a public place to live.
If that is you, start with how to promote web apps without an app store. The personal page is the listing.
Keep ownership of the story
Store copy is reviewed. Store search is rented. Your AllApps bio, app descriptions, and demo can change the same afternoon you ship.
That speed matters on launch week. You can add a second app, pin a new review, and keep sharing one link.
Create the catalog you own on AllApps, then point your store listings at it.
